■ Background to the launch of Bencom-san
Recently, legal problems involving younger people caused by social media investment fraud, online casinos and other risks have become increasingly wide ranging and severe. In some cases, young people become involved unaware that they may end up being complicit in a criminal act. In the first place, these problems may arise because of a lack of knowledge about the law and limited opportunities to acquire such knowledge.
For 20 years, the Company has helped build a society where everyone can have access to the knowledge of specialists such as lawyers. We feel that we have a responsibility to help young people from their teens to their twenties avoid legal problems. For this reason, we have launched the legal education content Bencom-san.
■ About Bencom-san
Bencom-san is legal education content distributed on a video streaming platform aimed to protect young people from their teens to their twenties from unintended legal problems. Bencom-san, a character inspired by a samurai, explains concerns unique to younger people. Its aim is to “avoid causing or being hurt on the Internet,” and it operates under the supervision of Bengoshi.com news and a lawyer.
Bengoshi.com news has distributed lawyers’ explanations for nearly 12 years. Leveraging this knowledge and experience, the new content will re-edit the videos so that the youths can view legal problems as issues relevant to them, thereby helping to prevent youths’ legal problems.
We have already received some questions and comments that users might not be able to direct to their parents or friends. Under the supervision of a lawyer, we also distribute explanations on serious cases, such as being invited to do a shady part-time job on social media or being verbally or physically abused by a parent.

■ Comment from Sakiko Yamaguchi, editor-in-chief of Bengoshi.com News
“Younger people from their teens to their twenties are susceptible to legal problems both personally and professionally in their school life, employment, marriage and other respects. However, they have limited opportunities to learn what to do if they get involved in a legal problem. Even if they manage to seek a lawyer’s advice, it is often the case that their problem has already become hard to resolve. Bencom-san aims to give young people proper advice on what to do in times of need so that they will not get involved in a legal problem because of poor knowledge. Our hope is that this easy-to-watch video content will help younger people develop legal awareness.”
