Bengo4.com Employee Becomes Chairperson of Web Accessibility Infrastructure Committee

Bengo4.com, Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Taichiro Motoe, Representative Director, President and CEO, Lawyer; hereinafter the “Company”) announces that Yoshinori OHTA, a member of the Technical Strategy Office of the Company’s Development Division, was appointed the chairperson of Web Accessibility Infrastructure Committee (hereinafter the “WAIC”) as of September 1, 2025.

■ What is the Web Accessibility Infrastructure Committee (WAIC)?
The organization works to promote the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) X 8341-3 pertaining to web accessibility and people’s understanding of it. The WAIC consists of members who have developed draft amendments, members who have worked in related businesses ministries and agencies, and users of the internet. They construct the infrastructure that is needed to increase web accessibility using the standard. The WAIC also provides translations of documents and guidelines that are needed to use JIS X 8341-3, and it carries out various other activities, including the holding of accessibility seminars for local public organizations.

■ What is web accessibility?
Web accessibility is the ability of all people, including the elderly and people with disabilities, to access websites and web applications. To be specific, people with impaired vision are able understand the content of websites using text-to-speech software, and people who have difficulty manipulating a mouse can use websites with just a keyboard.

■ What is Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) X 8341-3?
JIS X 8341-3 is a Japanese national standard that includes the Guidelines for Designing for the Elderly and People with Disabilities Information and Communications Equipment, Software, and Services — Part 3: Web Content.
The guidelines specifically define things to consider in the creation of websites so that they are accessible to all. The national government, municipal governments, and many businesses create websites in accordance with this standard.
