Press Release

Feb 12 2026

Bengo4.com, Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Taichiro Motoe, Representative Director, President and CEO, Lawyer; hereinafter, the “Company”) announces the release of the beta version of a new AI agent feature for Bengo Kakumei, a digital document support tool for lawyers. Case records*2 are a core resource necessary in legal work, and the feature uses an AI agent to autonomously search them for relevant information, reading and analyzing these cases.

Case record research and analysis are core duties performed by lawyers, but they remain the biggest bottleneck in legal work due to the sheer volume of these records.

The Amended Code of Civil Procedure comes into force in May 2026, resulting in the full digitalization of civil court procedures in Japan. Bengo Kakumei is a fundamental case record management tool, and the purpose of its built-in, advanced AI agent feature is to reshape how lawyers work, as the digital transformation (DX) and AI transformation (AX) of society and the legal industry occur simultaneously.

*1 Results of user research and operational testing obtained by having the AI agent perform a set of tasks using sample data and prompts. It is not guaranteed that the feature will produce complete results in one minute all the time.

*2: “Case records” refers to the complete set of materials (paper and electronic data) relating to a case handled by a lawyer, including documents received from clients, submissions to the court, and evidence, etc.

■ Background Behind and Purpose of Development: AI Empowers Lawyers

In legal practice, lawers retrieve and comprehend data and information, make jugments, and prepare documents. These tasks do not take place in this order but are carried out repeatedly in a cyclic or random order while lawers are proceeding each case. They read materials, identify issues, examine how to explore these issues, and discover more materials they must read. This autonomous agentic AI is designed to enable lawyers to complete this cyclical process much more quickly and comprehensively. It enhances lawyers’ thinking skills by providing access to a greater amount of information. It also deepens and broadens their understanding like never before.

The feature significantly shortens the amount of time lawyers spend reading materials. It also allows them to make judgements and perform their duties more effectively as experts, thereby strengthening the management foundation of law firms and enabling clients to benefit more significantly.

■ What Is Bengo Kakumei’s AI Agent Feature (Beta Version)

The AI agent flexibly interprets instructions provided by humans, autonomously searches relevant materials in the case records stored in Bengo Kakumei, reads them and provides case analyses. It not only searches for materials and prepares brief summaries, but it also carries out instructions, such as organizing the points of dispute and evaluating evidence, which are core components of legal work.

<Characteristics of AI Agent Feature (Beta Version)>

1. AI that autonomously reads and analyzes case records

Bengo Kakumei’s AI agent can autonomously search the case records stored in Bengo Kakumei for relevant information. It finds and evaluates relevant materials. There is no need for the user to gives it files or additional context information.

2. Ability to adapt flexibly to complex instructions

It not only does routine work, such as summary preparation, but also carries out complex job-specific instructions such as “Make a list of evidence,” or “Find parts in opponent’s second and subsequent briefs where claims about the transaction price have changed, then present them in a table format.”

3. Accurate, easy to read well-founded responses with minimal risk of hallucination

The AI agent is trained to provide responses that faithfully reproduce the text of the case records to minimize the risk of hallucination. Responses include reference links to the documents on which they are based. Lawyers can check the original text with a single click, which allows them to quickly fulfill their legal obligation to strictly verify sources. Responses can also be formatted for better readability, including in tables.

<Comments from Current Users (Excerpts)>

We asked lawyers who are currently Bengo Kakumei users to try the beta version of the AI agent feature. The following are some of the responses we have received.

  • “I was impressed because it read about 1,300 case files from the last few years and summarized them in one minute.”
  • “A client firm sent me a set of documents related to harassment immediately before our consultation. The AI agent summarized them in no time, allowing me to understand the key points.”
  • “It showed the differences between the claims made by plaintiffs and defendants in a comparison table, and clearly highlighted undisputed facts, which helped organize my thoughts.”

The AI functionality of Bengo Kakumei is designed for use within a robust security environment, assuming handling of highly confidential case information.

The feature internally utilizes Gemini, hosted on GCP Vertex AI, or Claude, hosted on AWS Bedrock. Legal practice-grade security is ensured by establishing systems where input/output data is not used for training at either external service providers or the Company, minimizing data retention, encrypting communications, and enforcing strict access controls.

■ Statement from Bengo Kakumei Developer and Attorney Ryosen Yamamoto

A considerable portion of lawyers’ work involves reading cases thoroughly, which is time-consuming, and often they feel they are unable to absorb information effectively.

This AI agent feature that has just been released in beta would have sounded like magic if it were released just a few years earlier. It organizes an enormous number of case records neatly in no time to help lawyers make judgements, enhancing their thinking skills.

We are planning to integrate genuine legal knowledge into the AI agent in the near future so that lawyers can consider both factual and legal elements before making even better decisions.
